Many people want to know how to get the best service at an auto repair shop. The best advice is to know a little bit about the problem before you take it to the shop. It all comes down to a more accurate description of the problem you give them makes it easier on the technician, and your bank account. It is pretty straightforward when put like that, but try taking your car to the shop and just saying something like "fix it", and then see what they charge you. After you have thrown several hundred dollars at the problem just to still have it, you will go in there and say, "I have a P0303 code, and I checked the spark plug and injector pulse on the cylinder".
